Christmas 2014…

20141204_223919999_iOS

This year, Christmas was so lovely. Lillee is a perfect age to enjoy all of the magic and wonder of this time of year. We have seen Santa a few times, opened some gorgeous presents and have new memories to treasure for years to come.

20141204_232038802_iOSMy favourite ornament this year is probably my wedding bouquet bauble that I made in early December. It was an idea I saw on pinterest, and was pretty simple to recreate. All I had to do, was carefully push some of the dried flowers from my bouquet into a large glass bauble being careful not to break the delicate petals.

Christmas Eve this year was truely magical. I spent most of the day cooking and cleaning, while Dan took her too a Christmas party at his parents golf club. When they got back, she told me all about dancing, having her face painted and winning the singing competition! When she got home, there was a bag on the coffee table full of presents! Santa had come early to deliver some things to a special little girl for Christmas Eve night. In her bag, there were:

  • New Pyjamas
  • Reindeer food
  • A Christmas story
  • Miracle on 34th street on DVD
  • Popcorn
  • Mini jaffa cakes
  • Bubble Bath

She loved it so much! She had a bath in her new bubbles, got dressed in her new pyjamas, snuggled up and ate some popcorn while watching her movie and sprinkled the reindeer food outside just before cleaning her teeth, reading her story and snuggling up in bed all ready for Santa to come on Christmas morning!

On Christmas morning, Lillee was so exited to open her present!
We spent some time opening everything as a family before Christmas tree Crumpets and Buck’s Fizz for breakfast (or OJ in Dan and Lillee’s case!) The rest of christmas day passed with lots of present opening and yummy food! We were all very spoilt and I’m so thankful to our amazing family for all the lovely things we had.

Good Food Show…

So, last Sunday we went to the good food show in Birmingham!

We had an amazing time, and we spent the day browsing the stalls, tasting and subsequently buying some pretty yummy food and drink. I did Vlog during the day, so check out the video here.

On the way to the NEC, we had to go through Birmingham international train station. While we were there, we went into the toilets and this sign was above one of the toilets…

I have to be honest, it really amused me hence why I decided to post it on here! There were so many things there, that it wasn’t possible to taste everything or buy everything.. Or at least not for us anyway! But, some of my favorite purchases are…

  • Scarlet angel salad dressings. We brought two lemon and black pepper, and one sweet pepper and chilli. Because we brought 3, we also got a free little jute bag to bring them home in which I have to be honest is super cute. They are made in wales and all organic. and we love them, so much that I’m already wishing we brought more…
  • Belvoir fruit cordials in elder-flower, raspberry and lemon and raspberry and rose. I’ve had the elder-flower cordial before, and also the elder-flower pressé
as well as the raspberry lemonade. The raspberry and rose was new to me but so delicious I had to buy some! The entire range of cordials is also currently available from ocado.
  • We also got some amazing vintagey shabby-chic items from one of the stalls. unfortunately, I’m not sure of the name but we got a wicker picnic basket with a handle that reminded us of something little red riding hood would carry, some hooks for Lillee’s room which I’ll post a picture of once they are up and a hanging candle holder in the shape of a heart with a little bird on for my mom and dad’s silver wedding anniversary on Tuesday. I could have spent so much money on that stall. I just had to try not to look to hard!

We brought and tried so many other things, which I wont list but I would definitely recommend going if you want a foodies day out!

Our ticket price also included a seat in the super theater. Originally, I wanted to see Paul Hollywood. However, it turned out he was only there on the Thursday and Friday which we couldn’t go to as Dan was at work. So, instead we saw Tom Kerridge proper pub food. It was funny, and his food looked tasty. I have also brought his book but I haven’t had a chance to properly sit down and read it yet. I have tried one recipe, which was the lemon posset. I liked it but personally, it was a little sweet so i’d cut down on the sugar and I don’t think I left it in the fridge long enough to set properly. I do recommend eating strawberries with it though! They went together so well and I will be trying it out again although with less sugar next time.

We are planning on going again to the winter good food show at the end of November. So, hopefully I’ll be able to get some more amazing food items!

Making a doll…

20140119-020917.jpg

At Christmas, Lillee had a kit to make a doll! So we spent an afternoon putting her together. Lillee helped to hold the pieces, push the (plastic) needle through the felt and to stuff her doll at the end. She loved it, and named her new friend Ada. And since then she’s been taken everywhere along with Roo. Definitely a new favourite. In fact, she loved doing in so much we’ve got her another kit ready for her birthday in a few weeks.
As Lillee was there when I brought it, she’s already told me her name is going to be Emily, and Ada is exited to have a new friend!
I’m still not sure how she came up with Ada and Emily as dolls names due to the fact she doesn’t know anyone with either name. We think it may have started out with Aimie and Emma (my sister and I) but we don’t know for sure. But apparently I had a relative named Ada so who knows? Maybe she heard it somewhere!

Creamy Vegetable Pasta…

tumblr_mkr4xwwIpI1s9degmo1_1280

In our house, pasta always goes down well. This dish is pretty simple and great for using odds and ends in the fridge, I’ve used everything from broccoli and sprouts to sweetcorn! It’s also really good for using up any leftover meat or fish. We usually have it with pork or chicken stirred through but its just as nice on its own, with salmon or any thing else you fancy!

You will need:
.500g of pasta
.1 onion finely chopped
.2 leeks sliced
.4 carrots diced
.1 courgette diced
.2 sticks of celery sliced
.10 mushrooms sliced
.a tin of sweetcorn drained
.250g frozen peas
.1 tbsp olive oil
.2 tbsp plain flour
.1/2 pint skimmed milk
.2 chicken/vegetable stock cubes
.seasoning
.2 cloves of garlic

Heat the oil in a large pan, and add the onion, celery and carrots. Cook untill the onion is translucent then add the garlic and the rest of the vegetables. Cook for a few minutes then stir in the flour. Cook for another 2 minutes then slowly add the milk stirring constantly until thickened. Cook the pasta according to packet instructions, while the sauce simmers stirring it occasionally to stop it sticking. Drain the pasta and stir into the sauce. Season to taste.

Serves 6-8

lillee trolley together#

lillee trolley

So this month, on a trip to Birmingham with my sister we found a bottle of water encrusted with Swarovski crystals! I was so tempted to buy it, but at £25 for a bottle of water it was rather expensive. Also this month, myself and Dan celebrated the anniversary of our engagement! Three years of being engaged on the 23rd we spent the day with Dan unfortunately at work, but on the Saturday we went on the train with Lillee and had such a lovely day! We also went to the Lichfield food festival, it wasn’t what I expected although we had a good time anyway, and we enjoyed some homemade icecream from a very little shop. Yummy! We also spent a little time putting together the trolley Lillee had for her birthday, with a little help of course! Since then, she has been doing lots of shopping and then cooking in her play kitchen!

Going on the “choo choo train”…

So, on Saturday we went to Chase Water railway! We had a lovely time and spent the day going on trains, picnicking and finished by going to the park. Lillee got so exited, all day Friday she was asking when we could go on the train, and she didn’t want to leave at the end of our day!

The train was a steam locomotive and each journey around Chase water takes approximately 45 minutes with gorgeous views of the lake or wildlife all along the tracks. There are also a few stops on the way around. it was a really lovely family day out. We are planning on taking Lillee back soon! We are defiantly going at Christmas on the Santa express so that we can visit Santa and go on a gorgeous steam train journey! Really looking forward too it!

I haven’t done a “my month” post in ages! I keep forgetting, and then its too late to post but never mind, I’m hoping to get back on track now! So really, this month have been about spending time together enjoying the sun and the good weather! My beautiful sister turned 13 so we had that to celebrate. We’ve also been on a few days out to the park, and to a steam rally! We had a lovely time and Lillee had great fun on the slides and going on a “train” (it was a traction engine ride) Hope you’ve all had fun this month!

Sunday Afternoon Baking…

This afternoon, myself and Lillee spent some time baking. We had a fab time making Red Velvet brownies! They came out all fudgey in the middle and really tasty! Mine don’t look as good as the original recipe, however I didn’t have enough food colouring and as I took them out of the tin it fell apart! But never mind they are still really nice and we had such a lovely time making them. I really reccomend this recipe as they were so easy but still effective!

Cadbury World…

Sooo on Friday, we went to Cadbury world! We had a fab time learning about the origins of chocolate, and the history of Cadburys! We were given some bars of chocolate going round, and also a pot of melted chocolate as well as “essence” which was a pot of chocolate with your choice of sweets to put in it (white chocolate buttons, shortbread, rice crispies, wine gums etc.) It was lovely to have a day out just the three of us which rarely happens and we really enjoyed ourselves! We ate breakfast on the train, had lunch at Cadbury world and while we were there we visited the worlds biggest Cadbury shop (which had a train going around the ceiling!! and Sooo much chocolate), wrote our name in chocolate (well I wrote Lillee’s) and stamped “I visited Cadbury world” on a penny!
