Button Heart…

Tomorrow, me and Dan have been engaged for three years!! Soo I made him this card as part of our celebrations.

To make it…
•assorted buttons
•card blank
•glue
•pencil

First, I drew a rough heart shape on the card. Then I filled it in with various buttons making sure I covered the pencil marks. I placed the buttons first then glued them down and that’s it!

Hope you like it…

Look what I found…

  • Food in a jar? I’m loving the idea and I keep pinning different ideas… So, what better than chili and cornbread with the cooler weather we’ve been having this week?

  • As we are now in August, and the “back-to-school-feeling” is upon me I’ve been trying to make things a little more organised around here…

  • I LOVE this potato salad, every time we go on a picnic, Dan asks me to make it!

  • I’m lusting after these right now, so hopefully when we go shopping at the weekend I’ll be able to nab them!

  • I really like the smell of vanilla, and I love beauty products and making things…mix it all together and you get this yummy looking body scrub!

  • I’m in the process of updating my wardrobe, so this fab shoe storage would be a really good thing for me to try out!

Apologies…

Okay, lets be honest here I am shocking at getting posts out with any frequency. So its my new resolution to try my best at getting my house shipshape and my blogging up to scratch! I truly am sorry about my lack of posts I just never seem to remember to blog about things…I take the pictures, I even start the posts and save them as drafts then I just never get any further than that so I have all these half finished posts that aren’t relevant to me anymore!

The plan is, that now I am officially a full-time stay at home mommy for at least a few months (until someone turns 3 and starts nursery…now that’s a scary thought!) I should have plenty of time to sort out my housekeeping and also blog about my efforts!

Wish me luck!

The big girl bed…

On Sunday, we took the side off of my little girls cot-bed, turning it into a “big girl bed”

big girl bed

This is how the first week went…

Sunday:- I tucked Lillee up into bed, read her a story and said goodnight. She didn’t get out of bed once! So proud of her, but I have a feeling that it’s not going to last…

Monday:- So, we followed the same routine as last night. (it is pretty much her normal bedtime routine except the change in bed) However, today Miss Lillee decided that she didnt want to stay in bed. She followed me out of her room, then I put her back to bed and she sat in her chair reading to her toys. So, about 10 minutes later I stuck my head round the door to see if she was ok and she followed me out again…twice I had to put her back to bed! However, after throwing a tantrum (in her bed I might add!) she went off to sleep and by 8 o’clock she was fast asleep! Still not too bad I don’t think, just hoping it doesn’t get any worse!

Tuesday:- Tonight, we were out untill quite late so Lillee fell asleep in the car! This meant that she then stayed in bed as she was already sleep.

Wednesday:- One very tired little girl was put to bed today. She has been refusing naps all week, and coupled with last night being so late for her she spent most of the day looking extremly sleepy. The bonus was that although when she was initially put to bed she got out to play in her room after I was out of her sight, within about 10 minutes Lillee got herself back into bed and went off to sleep!

Thursday:- Tonight, she was put to bed after her story she had the book off me and read it too her teddys before falling asleep!

Friday:- Daddy was at home tonight, so he put her to bed. Once again, she stayed in bed all night.

Saturday:- Tonight was the same as last night, and again we had no problems!

I’m soooooo proud of my princess for staying in her bed, to be honest i was expecting her up every 5 minutes especially the first few nights so really shes done extremly well!

Menu Planning…

shopping-list

So, every few months i take it upon myself to plan the weeks meals in advance. However, it always fails. we either dont want what ive planned, we run out of something, or i make too much stuff so we cant eat it all. As we usually shop on a friday/saturday im going to start it from there, and to begin with im only going to plan the evening meal before hopefully bringing in lunches as well in the near future. In theory, meal planning should help us stick to a budget and in order to help me with this im going to buy one big joint of meat, roast it and use it over a few days in different ways. So, im going to try again, and this time i hope you’ll all try it with me so here we go…

Week 1

Saturday… Lamb pitta breads.

Sunday… Roast lamb

Monday… Garlic chicken and salad

Tuesday… Shepard’s pie

Wednesday… Roasted vegetables and sausages

Thursday… Leftovers

Friday… Chicken curry

Now the plan is to make and stick to my shooping list…fingers crossed lets see how it goes next week!

Snow, snow and more snow! its been snowing an awful lot lately just here in staffordshire, so playing outside was a must. It’s all gone now, but we enjoyed it while it lasted. The comfort food was a hit in our house, especially the cobbler it may just become a new family favorite! The cake-in-a-jar was a huge success too something i’m definetly going to be making again.

January is traditionally a time to make resolutions. Out with the old and in with the new. New recipes, preparing new things for a special someones birthday in the near future and playing in the first snow of the year seems to me like a fantastic way to start everything off to me. And so, my resolution is this: Live well, laugh often, love much. (Bessie Anderson Stanley) I think we’ve made a good start so far.

“puttery treats”…

There I was looking for something to read last night on my kindle and I found “scrumptious treats for vintage housekeepers” by Alison May and I have to say I fell in love with the whole idea. THEN I found her website here and I was simply even more enamoured. I’ve spent quite a bit of time today reading her blog and thoroughly enjoyed my self. Go check it out! You wont regret it.

House Tour! The Living Room…

I live in a two bedroomed flat. Unfortunatly, we have cracked tiles around the edges of the rooms so for now we dont have carpet (except in Lillee’s room). However, we have been promised that the issue will be addressed A.S.A.P. Therefore, none of our pictures have any carpet and not very amazing tiled floors.

This aside, I wanted to share my home with you. So lets start with the living room…

This is the view from the door as you enter the living room. It’s the main area, with Lillee’s toys hidden in the leather effect ottoman. this is one of my favorite pieces of furniture, because it hides her toys at night so I can have an “adult sitting room”, creates extra storage which I can use for other things when shes older, and it is also a seat for when I have visitors! Multi-use at its best.

This is pretty much just showing you the other way from behind the settee. I have my DVD shelf, and a place to display nick-nacks and keep my table linen.

I adore my pictures. we purchased them from Ikea, but we lived with an empty wall for months. It makes me happy to know I finally have some homely touches! My lamp is an attempt at some atmospheric lighting…however we need more yet as the one on it’s own doesn’t create enough light for the room.

This is my “art gallery” on the kitchen door, I put a seection of Lillee’s artwork up for display. It means I can interchange it as necessary, and it dosen’t take away anything from the other decor.

The “dining room” or should I say dining corner… Luckily for us, we found the perfect size table for our little space, It was given to us by a family member who no longer needed it. We can comfortably seat four but at the moment we only have three chairs so that there is space for the high chair. Above the table is my cupcake picture, although it hasn’t shown up very clearly on the picture. I really like it here, with it being quite styleised, it dosen’t look out of place in the living area, but cupcakes tie in perfectly with the idea of food and dining.

Finally, this is my “study” we have a computer and printer with a comfy chair that my dad gave us. The chair only just fit behind the settee!. Above the computer, is a shelf for all the household paperwork and office supplies. And to add a little colour, the Calender that Lillee made at nursery.

So thats my living room/dining room/study! I hope you like it. I’m hoping to post pictures of the other rooms in my house soon.

The Housewife Challenge, 1 month in…

Well, It’s now a month since I began the housewife challenge. To be honest, I haven’t been overly succesfull so far. So lets remind ourselves of the rules…

  • Keep the house clean and tidy… well, I’ve kept half the house clean and tidy… the kitchen, living room, hallway, and Lillee’s room, however theres a HUGE pile of ironing in our room, and a rather large pile of washing in the bathroom waiting for my attention.
  • Keep Lillee clean and tidy… I think I succeded here! Although, to be honest it wasn’t anything I dont normally do. However, I have to admit, that as I’m typing this she has chocolate all around her mouth…
  • Proper, homecooked food… I kinda failed at this one. I think we’ve had more takeaways and ready meals this month than normal!!! and Lillee has had a few “out of the freezer” meals of fish fingers and smiley faces. Saying that, I have cooked sunday dinner twice, which is more than normal because Dan works on sundays.
  • Keep me looking good… There’s no real change here. Although I’ve lost a stone and a half now (yay me!) it means half my clothes are way to big and the other half are too small…so I’m looking kinda frumpy and I don’t have much time to style my hair properly. I think I’ll just have to keep trying at this one.

It may not be as bad as I first thought, but I’m still nowhere near where I want to be. Hopefully, this time next month I will be able to say that I’ve stuck to all the rules. we shall have to see.
